Here is a beautiful song (Shiny stockings), wonderfully sung by the divine Sarah Vaughan and meant to enhance the incredible beauty of the one and unique Cyd Charisse (1922-2008).
Cyd Charisse began her career with Colonel de Basil's Ballet russe de Monte Carlo. Her name on the program read Maria Istomina, a name chosen for her by the formidable Colonel himself... a name he thought more suitable for a native born Texan. After the company's season ended in London, Cyd returned to Los Angeles where MGM was conducting a search for a ballerina for the film, The Ziegfeld follies. She got the part and was signed to a long term contract and became one of the industry's brightest dancing stars. Party girl, The band wagon, Singin' in the rain and Silk stockings are just a few of the many that will not be forgotten. Cyd's grace, her style and her beauty are legendary. More than two dozen films and married for more than five decades to singer Tony Martin, Cyd continued with personal appearances all over the country.
Enjoy this blend of vocal and visual beauty!
